Beyond the Windows: How Custom Completes Your Interior Design

Photographer: Girls at Flourish, Designer: Paige Williams

Custom window treatments have an influence that extends beyond the windows themselves. They can be the determining factor on whether the design feels complete or just slightly off. Custom drapery, shades, pillows, and even cushions help a design feel whole. They can be created to be compatible with any luxury interior design aesthetic, be it bold, neutral, or anything in between.

At Brave Maggie Designs, we believe that in the world of interior design, high-quality custom window treatments are an undeniable necessity. Once the interior design has been created, we collaborate with the client to create custom window treatments that add the finishing touch that helps bring it all together.

Intentional decisions beyond a simple window covering are what take an amazing interior to the next level.

Luxury Window Treatments Are Art

Carefully selected fabrics, rods, and color palettes form a work of art that elevates interior design. A custom window treatment can add art to a room much like the way a framed canvas would. This can be in the form of a botanical pattern that brings bold elegance into the room’s design. Or, it can be sheer draperies that allow light to filter in over a dining room just before sunset.

Arched windows, statement pieces in their own right, can be dressed to fit a variety of aesthetics in a luxury home. We can select draperies to cover the entire window or just the lower portion depending on the chosen aesthetic. Similarly, the placement of the window influences the selection of hardware and coverings. All these intentional decisions lead to a work of art that was custom-created to fit in a specific room.

Custom Drapery and Pillows Bring Harmony to a Room

Every great designer home has custom drapery and pillows that work together in harmony. Large, vibrant patterns in drapery can be paired with smaller, more subtle ones in the pillows to create a harmonious collaboration.

Alternatively, custom pillows can be used to highlight the client’s individuality by allowing for colors and patterns that would be too distracting in drapery. This way, there is balance without losing personality. When there’s a disconnect between the draperies and the pillows, an otherwise perfect interior design feels incomplete.

The window treatment paired with custom pillows that were created with distinctive fabric adds craftsmanship that further elevates interiors. At our Franklin studio, we collaborate with designers and source high-quality fabric to thoughtfully craft soft furnishings with attention to detail suitable for an elegant interior design project. It’s these small details that create a wholly cohesive design that sets it apart from others.

Motorization Adds Upgraded Functionality to Design

A motorized window treatment can be a beautiful and functional addition to interior design elements. Motorized window treatments offer the client convenience when adjusting the light and mood in a room. Controls are available in wall switches, remotes, or apps and can often be automated.

They also offer energy efficiency as a bonus to convenience. Using smart motorized technology can help reduce the amount of sunlight heating a room, which is especially helpful during our Nashville summers, and reduce energy consumption.

Outside of functionality, a motorized window treatment ensures access to privacy in the home without compromising luxury. Custom Roman shades are a popular option that combine modern technology with a refined style for a sophisticated interior.

Custom Wallpaper Adds Personality to Maximalist Interiors

Coordination between window treatments and wallpaper also adds uniquely tailored beauty to a room’s interior design. These can be adapted to suit each room in a home. A maximalist living room design may have a statement wallpaper that extends into the window treatment, while a maximalist bedroom may use a companion wallpaper pattern that promotes relaxation.

Maximalist interiors use bold pattern mixing between the wallpaper and the window treatments. Attention to detail when selecting a custom wallpaper that reflects a client’s personality becomes central to creating and avoiding chaos. Successful pattern mixing uses color, scale, and pattern compatibility to create an elegance beyond the ordinary.

Subtle Window Treatments Highlight the Design’s Focal Point

When the design intends to spotlight a pop of color or a strategically placed piece of furniture, an understated window treatment is necessary. The room benefits from an elegant neutral window treatment that won’t interfere with the rest of the interior design.

Custom cafe draperies in a bathroom can complete the design without distracting from the cast-iron clawfoot bathtub or the French double vanity. The custom drapery’s influence becomes larger than the window treatment itself.

Woven roller shades are a minimalistic way to include texture while maintaining clean lines. They are an additional element but subtle enough to complement luxury design that has a central showstopper.

Custom Furnishings Add Unique Accents to Every Room

Soft furnishings made with quality fabrics can bring a static room to life. At our showroom, we have a curated selection of designer fabrics that can be used to create accents for every room in a home. From pillows to cushions, high-end fabrics tie the interior design together.

We consider a room’s purpose and aesthetic when selecting fabrics to transform a space. For example, Augusta prints provide botanical accents to a bold interior while toile supports a traditional or transitional design. Chintz fabric adds timeless sophistication to formal rooms. For structure in dining rooms or headboards, Damask is customary. A large variety of fabrics are available but must be selected according to the intended purpose.

Our team also considers the practicality of the fabrics for the soft furnishings. We make recommendations that factor in the need for durability, fade resistance, and hassle-free cleaning to ensure the longevity of the original design.

Sophisticated Layering Adds Texture to a Room

Layering different textures creates interest in a space with quiet elegance. Using one layer as the foundation and then selecting an accent layer achieves a unique look that distinguishes a home as a designer. In Nashville homes, sheer draperies layered with bold patterns above are becoming increasingly popular as a way to complete an interior design.

Layering fabrics can transform a space by softening a room’s bold design. Delicate materials add a touch of contrast that creates a more refined space. Trim is another way to subtly layer textures while maintaining a sophisticated aesthetic. Our team works with the interior designer’s vision to ensure that the layering enhances the design and client experience.
